A traditional home is the most common style in North America. A traditional house is a mixture of many classic, simple designs typical across America's many regions and people. Common features of the traditional home include very little in the way of decoration and very symmetrically windows, roves and porches (if there is one).
Traditional homes also go by the names of Colonial, Georgian and Cape Cod. Traditional house plans call for wood or brick as the main construction materials.
Traditional homes are based on tradition found in many Georgian house plans. Traditional homes often feature pillars under the front roof and on either side of the front door, tiled roofs, a brick walkway leading up to the front door steps, paired brick chimneys, sash windows and a fan light illuminating the front door. The traditional house plan features a symmetrical design and dominant roofline typical to the Cape Cod early American style.
